Future Fit

Future Fit

INVEST FOR IMPACT TO IGNITE YOUR WORKFORCE

Today’s workforce has dramatically changed, leaving employers to rapidly adjust to “creative” processes for attracting the right people to their business.

In order to compete, businesses must consider innovative programs that help them construct a talent pipeline of high-quality employees.

The Canton Chamber and the Local Impact Alliance have teamed up to launch FUTURE FIT.

This cutting-edge program prepares students (grades 10-12) to enter the workforce by directly connecting them to employers.

4 STEPS TO SUCCESSFUL ENGAGEMENT

  1. Consult with Future Fit Director to determine your workforce challenges and expectations.
  2. Work with Future Fit Director to design a realworld experience that provides student exposure to your operations.
  3. Interview Future Fit Scholars to determine best fit for your business.
  4. Train, develop and manage your Future Fit Scholar and provide a meaningful opportunity to fill your talent needs. Work to maximize the opportunity for them to become a full-time employee.

To engage in the Future Fit program, contact the Canton Chamber at 734-453-4040 or email Brooke Franklin at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

One of the best feelings in the world is giving. The positive energy is contagious.
With just one act of kindness, you can inspire others to go out and plant seeds of happiness through giving, too.
Your greatest gift is the ability to share your blessings; it’s what makes life meaningful.

11-30-21 is Giving Tuesday

Every year, on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, people take the time to kick off the holiday season by giving back to their community.

Whether it is donating money to a charitable cause or volunteering, Giving Tuesday is a day set to benefit the community.

On #Giving Tuesday charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.

Chili Cook Off for Canton Cares Fund

Chili Cook Off for Canton Cares Fund

October is National Chili Month.

When the weather cools down and the campfire gets going, there’s no better comfort food than chili to warm your soul and make it a perfect night. Every October, when autumn starts to chill our bones, break out the bread bowls and warm up with National Chili Month.

What better way to celebrate then to make it a fundraiser for our community.

This Fundraiser will support the Canton Cares Fund at Canton Community Foundation, which supports Canton community by providing financial assistance for disaster relief, therapeutic recreation, youth and senior programs.

Remembering and Honoring Meredith Whalen on 20th Anniversary of 9/11.

Remembering and Honoring Meredith Whalen on 20th Anniversary of 9/11.

Meredith Lynn Whalen, 23, was originally from Canton. A graduate of Salem High School in Plymouth-Canton schools and U-M, she became a research assistant for Fred Alger Management on the 93rd floor of the north tower.
Whalen grew up in Canton, Mich., where she developed a love of horses and riding. Her ultimate dream was to own a horse farm in Kentucky, though her short-term goal was to become a portfolio manager.
Whalen competed on the cross-country and swimming teams at Plymouth-Salem High School. After graduating with honors, she attended the University of Michigan in nearby Ann Arbor, graduating in 2000 with a degree in business.
Whalen got a taste of the investment field by working at Goldman Sachs in London during the summer before her senior year. But she wanted to work for a smaller firm where she thought she would receive more personalized training.
She was recruited to work in New York by David Alger, a co-owner of Fred Alger Management. He was among 35 employees of the firm who died in the terrorist attack.

Meredith Whalen Memorial Scholarship Fund at Canton Community Foundation was started by her family.

This scholarship was created in memory of Meredith Whalen. This scholarship is available to all female students graduating from the Plymouth-Canton Community School District who plan to attend any college or university majoring in business.

Healthy Youth and Healthy Senior Grants

Healthy Youth and Healthy Senior Grants

Grants made for 2021 from Healthy Youth Healthy Seniors Fund at Canton Community Foundation.

In 2000, as a result of a national tobacco settlement, CCF was among 65 community foundations in Michigan to receive an allocation of funds to aid community efforts that support healthy youth and healthy seniors.
Past grants include support for conflict resolution and anti-bullying for youth, exercise for seniors, grief counseling, and work skills development for special needs youth.

This year $12,000 is granted out to the following programs:-

1. $5000 New Hope Center for Grief Support.
New Hope Center for Grief, $5,000 This grant would support a
summer camp for kids grieving the death of a parent, sibling,
family member or friend. The grant would help expand
capacity for this camp to be able to support 75 grieving
children.

2. $3500 First Step
This grant would enable First Step to install a security alarm
and camera system for the First Step Plymouth office. This
grant would support infrastructure investment for the First
Step Plymouth office, as perpetrators of domestic violence or
sexual assault can sometimes be dangerous and threatening.

3. $3500 Plymouth YMCA
This grant would provide aid, allowing 50 children to attend 1
week of Day Camp and support families as they return to
work. As an impact of COVID-19 more families are requesting
financial assistance due to reduced or lost income throughout
the past year.
