Healthy Youth and Healthy Senior Grants

Grants made for 2021 from Healthy Youth Healthy Seniors Fund at Canton Community Foundation.

In 2000, as a result of a national tobacco settlement, CCF was among 65 community foundations in Michigan to receive an allocation of funds to aid community efforts that support healthy youth and healthy seniors.
Past grants include support for conflict resolution and anti-bullying for youth, exercise for seniors, grief counseling, and work skills development for special needs youth.

This year $12,000 is granted out to the following programs:-

1. $5000 New Hope Center for Grief Support.
New Hope Center for Grief, $5,000 This grant would support a
summer camp for kids grieving the death of a parent, sibling,
family member or friend. The grant would help expand
capacity for this camp to be able to support 75 grieving
children.

2. $3500 First Step
This grant would enable First Step to install a security alarm
and camera system for the First Step Plymouth office. This
grant would support infrastructure investment for the First
Step Plymouth office, as perpetrators of domestic violence or
sexual assault can sometimes be dangerous and threatening.

3. $3500 Plymouth YMCA
This grant would provide aid, allowing 50 children to attend 1
week of Day Camp and support families as they return to
work. As an impact of COVID-19 more families are requesting
financial assistance due to reduced or lost income throughout
the past year.

Greater Plymouth/Canton Service Project

Hunger — it’s something that no child should ever have to experience.  A child’s chance for a successful tomorrow starts with having enough nutrition today.  But there are children in schools in your neighborhood who don’t know where their next meal is coming from.

We have an opportunity to change that through the annual Greater Plymouth/Canton Service Project which benefits Kids Coalition Against Hunger.

In order for this annual event to be a success, the steering committee of the Greater Plymouth/Canton Service Project raises $70,000 and solicits 1,500 volunteers to assist us in packaging 250,000 meals.  These meals are used to feed children and their families locally, across the country, and around the globe.

Plymouth Community Veterans Memorial Park

Happy 4th of July!!
We have an important announcement for Plymouth Community Veterans Memorial Park.

Each year thousands of visitors stroll the park, admiring the beautiful pathways, the newly refurbished canon and --- most importantly --- paying respect to the names of the veterans visible on the pathways and the veterans plaza.
After 14 years of harsh Michigan weather, the pavers in the veterans plaza are no longer legible with the names and rank of our honorable service men and women.
The project of removing and replacing the veterans plaza pavers bricks pavers with new laser engraved pavers made of material that has been developed to stand up to brutal winters of Michigan would cost $41,000.
We are pleased to announce Loren Wadington is donating $20,000 from her donor-advised fund at Canton Community Foundation toward the cost of the project.
The remainder of the project will be covered by the Grunwell Cashero Co.
Grunwell Cashero was the contractor for the original construction of the park including stonework, monuments and brick and paver installation.
The work is expected to start in the Spring of 2022.

If you wish to support causes like these please support our Foundation, so we can continue to serve Plymouth Canton areas.

Canton Community Clean Up

On Saturday, May 15, 2021, Community Clean Up Day in Canton Township at Griffin Park organized by Habitat for Humanity. The grant was made by the Canton Police Benevolent Fund at Canton Community Foundation.
Thank you to our wonderful volunteers representing Canton Township Police, residents from Canton, Belleville, Woodhaven, Royal Oak, as far away as South Lyon & Habitat for Humanity WWC Partner Families.
They cleaned up the entire area of the park behind the Canton Post Office, and one project for a resident in the neighborhood of digging and mixing dirt and mulch.

We can do wonderful things when we come together as a community!
