For Good. For Ever.

We're proud to support our community's students and their educational endeavors by offering numerous scholarships. Our program includes financial aid opportunities for students of all ages who are at different stages in their educational pursuits, as well as a number of different areas of study.

Our online scholarship application opens in early January and remains open until mid-March.  Scholarships recipients are notified in May; and funds are sent directly to schools for the fall semester.

Westland debuts new LOGO!

The Westland Community Foundation is debuting a new logo to the community.

The Westland Community Foundation celebrated 25 years of giving in 2021. During 2021, a major milestone was achieved: Westland Community Foundation has distributed over $1,000,000 in funds (includes matching funds) to organizations in Westland.

In 2021 a major decision was made by the Board of Westland Community Foundation to join the Local Impact Alliance. As time evolved, so did the need to continue the foundation’s work best representing the area in which is served. The foundation successfully underwent a strategic planning and merging process with Local Impact Alliance.

The Board members realized that the logo needs to represent many facets of the foundation: the generosity of the community served, collaboration among donors and nonprofits with the foundation, growth of the community and hope.

Champion the Right to Read - Lunch & Learn

Since 1891, the Michigan Library Association has led the advancement of all libraries through advocacy, education and engagement. Throughout their history, the association continues to serve as champions of access and they stand strong to protect the right to read, and promote intellectual freedom as a core value of the library profession and a basic right in our democratic society.

Their goal through the MI Right to Read (www.mirighttoread.com) initiative is to protect Michiganders’ right to read by proposing pro-active legislation that protects First Amendment Rights, opposing attempts to ban books from Michigan libraries; educate the public about the right to read; and ensure that librarians across Michigan will be entrusted to continue to do their jobs and serve the needs of all individuals and communities.

Giving Hope Spring Social Update

The Giving Hope Board would like to wish all of our members a very Happy Spring!

Our Pizza Party and Game Night at Buddy's Pizza was a success!

Kyle and Laura from Growth Works talked to us about all of the progrmas they offer to area pre-teens and families. What started out as an intervention program to help kids who were getting in trouble in Kellog Park in Plymouth has grown into an organization that works with local schools, police departments and other municipalities to provide a variety of services. They have four locations - Plymouth, Canton, Livonia and Garden City and help with Substance Abuse Treatment, Juvenile Justice and other Family Services.

Thank you to Raeann Neil and the Special Events Committee for planning such a fun night!

Welcome New Members!

Giving Hope has the honor of welcoming two new members!

Diane Galante & Julie Whipple

Welcome into our Circle of Giving, Ladies!

A big Thank You to Lisa Krahel who has agreed to become a "member at large" on the Giving Hope advisory board!

Did you know that our local community has an amazing group of people who gather at community libraries to work with residents interested in honing their English language skills?

For nearly 40 years, the Plymouth Canton Community Literacy Council has been training patient volunteers with a love of people and sense of humor to work with our ESL residents to help them feel more confident with their reading, writing and conversational skills.

If you are looking for an amazing volunteer opportunity or if you would like to learn more about the classes offered through the Literacy Council, we hope you will register for this informal discussion.
